The DSO Education Department is happy to welcome October!
October is a special month for us; it marks the start of the Youth Concert season! This year, our Fall Youth Concerts start on October 6. We couldn't be more excited about the programming for the October concerts and of course, the programming for our Spring Youth Concerts. The orchestra is rehearsing the music right now as this note is being written and they sound wonderful.
Aside from our October Youth Concerts, we are pleased to put on the annual DSO Halloween Family Concert. This year’s spooktacularly fun Halloween concert is going to be great! In the lobby we will have an arts and craft area with various festive activities, an instrument petting zoo, and a costume contest! On the stage, you will find your wonderful DSO musicians performing the great music of Camille Saint-Saëns and Simon Sargon. You might even just seem some musicians in some hilarious costumes. We hope you will be able to join us for the Halloween Family Concert on October 25.
From the stage- The musicians are back in full swing! The 2009-2010 Classical Season kicked off in September and the music has been wonderful. We have enjoyed the sounds of Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Barber and more. For October, the orchestra will be preparing and performing music by Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Dvorák, Higdon, Saint-Saëns, and Escher.
From the office- Behind the scenes, the DSO staff likes to keep October fun and festive with a staff Halloween staff party. We gather together, eat lots o’ food, have a chili cook off, a pumpkin carving contest, a costume contest, and a skit contest. The DSO Education Department has put on awesome skits before (award winning skits, actually) and we’re hoping to produce a winning one this year. Wish us luck!
We hope you have a wonderful October and look forward to seeing you at the Meyerson.
