Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition

The Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition was begun in 2002 to identify and encourage the highest level of musical talent in the Texas. It now provides string and piano students under the age of 18 from five states (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana & Arkansas) the opportunity to compete for scholarships and a performance with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Music Memory
The Music Memory program and contest are designed to provide elementary students in grades 3-6 with exposure to, and a deep understanding and appreciation of, the world's greatest music.  All of the students in the participating schools study 16 selections chosen from Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary masterworks.  Using the Music Memory curriculum, music teachers are able to give lessons about music themes (melody), harmonies, instruments, vocal styles, forms, dynamics, tempo, and foreign languages. Many of the state standards in music are covered, as well as biographical information about the composers and a historical context for the compositions.  Teams are formed from participating schools and compete in a championship contest in the Meyerson. This event involves live performances by DSO and Arts Magnet High School musicians.

Performance Preludes
