Teacher Resources:
Partners in Education
An active
partner with the Dallas Public Schools, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra
has "adopted" four elementary campuses: Louise W. Kahn Elementary,
Sidney Lanier Vanguard, Eduardo Mata Elementary and T. L. Marsalis
Elementary. Patner schools receive free admission to Youth Concerts and
annual Symphony YES visits in addition to other collaborative projects.
Marsalis and Lanier are Young Strings campuses, and all of the schools
are involved in the DSO's annual minority festival concerts. The Dallas
Symphony Orchestra represents the arts on the Dallas Public School's
Partners in Education Advisory Committee which meets monthly to review
partnership opportunities in the district.
The Dallas Symphony
Orchestra is a committed particpant in this community colaboration for
arts-in-education and has played a leadership role in the first two
years of the project. The objectives of ArtsPartners are to increase
the impact of arts-in-education programs on student learning and
achievement; provide students with equal access to arts and cultural
programs; and leverage city, district and private funding needed for
schools to access these programs.

Music Memory
In
partnership with classical radio station WRR, the Dallas Symphony
Orchestra supports the Music Memory Contest, a program which introduces
elementary students to the sounds of classical music. Each year the
friends of WRR raise funds for a 16-week Saturday morning radio program
based on the Music Memory Contest. DSO personnel participate in
creating content as well as providing voices for the taping of the
program.
Radio Programming
Encore
is the Monday evening broadcast of most DSO classical concerts hosted
by Victor Marshall. The program is featured on WRR. 101.1 FM. Victor
Marshall also hosts the interantionally syndicated broadcasts of Dallas
Symphony Orchestra performances.
