Teacher Resources:
Dallas Symphony Orchestra Family Concerts offer a lively introduction to the orchestra and its music through "kid-friendly" performances of familiar, exhilarating repertoire. Research has shown that life-long concert enjoyment most often begins with a childhood experience with family members. Through the Family Concerts series, the Dallas Symphony encourages families to start the tradition of concert attendance with their children.
DSO Family Concerts include pre-concert activities in the lobby of the Meyerson Symphony Center and a one-hour, kid-friendly performance by the orchestra with narration and visuals. Programming includes an annual Halloween concert with audience and musicians in costume, performances of children's favorites such as "Peter and the Wolf", zany guest narrators, and themed concerts featuring orchestral classics.

Tchaikovsky Discovers America
January 9, 2011 at 2:30PM
Based on the actual historical event, this story tells of the great composer's arrival in New York for the grand opening of Carnegie Hall in 1891 and his famous trip to Niagara Falls. A surprise encounter with a young American girl, Jennie, reveals much about Tchaikovsky - his life in Russia, his love of music and his fears of conducting. This is a poignant story of the meeting of old world influences and new world experiences; a tale of contrast, courage and classical music. Audiences will enjoy more than twenty-five excerpts of the composer's music including passages from his three famous ballets.
